Massasoit Drops Doubleheader to Bunker Hill Despite Strong Pitching Efforts
Massasoit dropped both ends of a doubleheader against Bunker Hill on Saturday, falling 1-0 in Game 1 and 9-6 in Game 2.
Game 1 was a pitcher's duel, highlighted by a dominant performance on the mound from Ian Rego. The Freshman was outstanding, tossing 6 no-hit innings while striking out 10. Despite the effort, Massasoit couldn't find timely offense, managing four hits and drawing six walks but unable to push a run across.
Max Gallant (2 hits), Stephen Madden, and James Haruch accounted for the team's hits, while Mekai Jones added a strong inning out of the bullpen with two strikeouts to keep things close.
In Game 2, Massasoit fell behind early but showed resilience throughout. After surrendering six runs in the opening inning, the Warriors battled back with three runs in the third and added three more in the seventh to cut into the deficit.
Connor James and Lucas LeTourneau each recorded extra-base hits, while Aidan Melo scored twice and reached base multiple times. Despite being limited to two hits, Massasoit worked four walks and continued to apply pressure late in the game.
On the mound, Stephen Madden provided a strong effort in relief, going 6.2 innings and allowing just two earned runs while striking out seven to stabilize the game after the early deficit.
Massasoit will look to bounce back in their next outing with Bunker Hill on Monday afternoon.
