Soccer Falls in Overtime
Massasoit men's soccer battled back late but came up just short in a 3-2 loss at Community College of Rhode Island on Saturday.
CCRI's Thomas Serluca powered the Knights with a hat trick, scoring once in the first half and twice more after the break to give the hosts a 3-0 advantage with under 15 minutes to play.
Massasoit responded with a surge as Nevyn Fontes netted back-to-back goals in the 79th and 82nd minutes, including a penalty kick, to pull the Warriors within striking distance. Despite the late push, CCRI's defense held strong to secure the win.
Tiago Gomes was outstanding in goal for Massasoit, recording 12 saves on 15 shots faced. Fontes finished with four shots, all on target, and both of the Warriors' goals.
Massasoit falls to 0-3 play this season and will look to bounce back in their next match on Tuesday at 4pm at Home.
